It searches recursively into the specified directory for the given filename. You can also specify a filetype you are looking for. Searching for contents can be case-sensitive or case- insensitive. With the latest version you can ignore all application directories or only the !Scrap directory. You can now search for access rights. This program is most useful when used with an editor which supports throwback. The search results will be shown inside the editor from where the files can be opened directly. Register program: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please send EUR 14.50 (or £10, US$ 15) to register. I prefer bank notes but I also accept cheques. We can also accept Visa, Euro/Mastercard and Dinerscard. Don't forget to type the right case. Upgrading: ~~~~~~~~~~ If you are registered user make sure you dont't lose the "Register" file inside the !FileFind application. You can do this using two ways: - Copy the archive over the old version - Copy the "Register" file from the old version to a save place and copy it back inside the application. (If you lose the "Register" file you have to enter your registration information again.) Using the program: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To open the search dialogue click on the FileFind icon on the iconbar. A window with the following items appears: Directory: Here you can type the directory name where the search starts. Alternatively you can drag a directory or application to the window. Filename: This is the filename to search for. Wildcards used are: ? for single characters, * for multiple characters anywhere inside filename ("*r" will find all files ending with the letter "r") Main options: Ignore case: If this radio button is ticked the contents will be treated as case-insensitive. Filetype: Only files with the given filetype will match the search. Filetypes can be specified like FF8, &FF8 or with their names like Absolute. A Filetype can also be selected by using the PopUp menu. Contents: The contents to search for. A ? can be used as a wildcard for a single character. Options window: Results window: The search results will be shown inside a seperate window. This window can be resized. Throwback: This radio-button is only available if throwback is available. You have to start DDE before starting FileFind to enable this button. Search for files: If search for files is disabled and search for directories is enabled only directories will be found. Search for directories: Directories matching the given the filename will also be shown. Search for files and search for directories can not be disabled at the same time. Complex search: Enable complex search strings. See chapter "Complex search" for details. Ignore !Scrap directory: The !Scrap directory will not be searched. Ignore application directories: No application directories will be searched. Treat image files as files: Image files will be treated as normal files. No search will occur inside the image file. Access: Search for the specified access rights. To disable the search for a special right click with right mouse button on the enabled radio button to disable it. Command: You can enter command to be execute for every found file. The string "%s" will be substituted with the current filename. For example: "Wipe %s ~cfr~v" will erase all found files. Timestamp: Search for files before, after or at the specified date and time. The timestamp must be like "1998-07-16 22:15:00". For example: after "1998-05-01" will find files with a timestamp after 1st May 1998. Save as default: Save the current options as default. These options will be set after loading the program. Load default: Load default options. If you have changed many options you can reload the default options with this icon. Start: Click this button to start the search. This button will be greyed out if a search is processing. Stop : While the search is processing this button stops the search. This button will be greyed out if not search is processing. Run: The selected found file or application will be run. If a directory is selected nothing happens. View: The directory containing the found file or application will be opened. If a directory is selected the directory will be opened. The status line above the search-results pane shows the current directory. If no search is processing "idle" is shown here. Complex search: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After enableing complex search at the options window you can enter a search string inside the contents field. This search string supports conditional operators like AND, OR and NOT. You can also use the following special functions: FTYPE(type): check filetype. type can specified as FF8, &FF8 or Absolute. FLEN(xsize): check file size. x can be '>', '<' or '='. For example: FLEN(<1000) would match files smaller than 1000 bytes. FNAME(name): check file name. You can use wildcards like * and ?. You should use * inside the filename field if you want to use this function. The filename field is used before evaluating functions. TIMESTAMP(xtimestamp): check timestamp. x can be '>', '<' or '='. For example: TIMESTAMP(=1998) will find all 1998 files. Example search strings: Acorn OR Archimedes: finds files containing "Acorn" or "Archimedes" NOT Acorn AND Archimedes: finds files not containing "Acorn" and containing "Archimedes" NOT FTYPE(Text): finds with filetype not "Text" (FFF) NOT FNAME(a*) AND FLEN(<1024) AND Acorn: find files not starting with "a" with a size smaller than 1K and containing "Acorn" - The search string is evaluatated from left to right without priority to AND or OR: "a op1 b op2 c op3 d" means "((a op1 b) op2 c) op3 d" - The NOT operand always applies to the following string or function. - All operands and functions are case-insensitive. You can write AND, and or AnD. Menu: ~~~~~ Save results: Drag the icon to a directory viewer to save the search results. Save options: Drag the icon to a directory viewer to save the search options. To reload options drag the file to the options window. Saved options: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can edit the options file. Remember not to change the first line ("#FileFind options") as it is used to identify a valid options file. Hacker information using the "Default" options file: If you not a registered user can a enable/disable options from the options window if you change the "Default" options file. After restarting the application the options are loaded. The "complex search" option can not be enabled this way if you are not registered.
